Akbank Art Center’s 5-concert Piano Days Opens
The Akbank Art Center in İstanbul's Taksim area unrolls its now-traditional series Piano Days this week, offering five concerts by established and up-and-coming musicians from Turkey and abroad throughout November.

The series, running from Nov. 5 through 28, will also offer a workshop and a master class to be conducted by Turkish pianist-composer Aydın Esen, the center said in a press release this week.

The series will open on Thursday evening with a performance by Quartet Diminished, an Iranian ensemble whose style combines a wide variety of musical trends, from 1970s art-rock to ethnic music and and 20th-century avant-garde and contemporary jazz. Esen will perform on Nov. 18, a day before he teaches a workshop at 2 p.m. and a master class at 3 p.m.

On Nov. 24, the center will host Ketil Bjørnstad, a prolific Norwegian jazz pianist whose music has been featured in films by Ken Loach and Jean-Luc Godard.

Italian jazz pianist-composer Danilo Rea will perform on Nov. 26. The series will wrap up with a young performer from Turkey, Utku Asan, on Nov. 28.

All concerts begin at 8 p.m.
