Hidden Gem Of Istanbul Vikings Runes In Hagia Sophia
In the central part of the southern gallery, there is a post from the Vikings on the marble railings. It is believed that it's belong to the 9th century, the phrase "Halvdan was here" is written on the marble.

It is thought that the writing was written by a Viking soldier working as a mercenary in the army during the Eastern Roman Period but it's not proved, yet. Isn't it surprising?

A group of Viking, known for their warrior personalities and came to Istanbul at that time, participated in the guards 'Varangian' regiment, most of which were formed by the Empire at will.

For almost two hundred years, this unity has become famous all over the empire, in the name of the palace.
