World Press Photo award winning images to be exhibited at Forum İstanbul
Photographs from the World Press Photo 2015 contest, featuring images from 131 countries, will be exhibited at the Forum İstanbul shopping center, located in the city's Bayrampaşa district, for public viewing from Aug. 11 to Sept. 2. Among the photographs that will open for viewing will be two internationally acclaimed images captured by Turkish photographer Bülent Kılıç, a photojournalist with Agence France-Presse and their acting photo manager for Turkey. Kılıç won the first and third place prize singles for the Spot News category. The image to win the first place position is the dark picture of a melancholic young girl amid clashes between protesters and the police near Taksim Square in İstanbul. The chaos broke out in the aftermath of the death of Berkin Elvan, a 15-year-old who lost his life after months in a coma induced by a blow to the head from a tear gas canister by the police. Kılıç's second award-winning photograph, which placed third, is of an explosion near the Syrian town of Kobani during a US-led airstrike against the jihadist group Islamic State in Iraq and the Levant (ISIL).
